Editor Rusty's Rap:  Best Thing in Life is Free - Vivino

Free wine?!  Not what I mean, not actual free drink, sorry, fellas.  It is an app for your smartphone.  Check this link:  https://www.vivino.com/app/

After downloading this app, you can take a photo of (scan) a wine label of a bottle you find at a wine or grocery store.  Within a minute, Vivino will report on your smartphone the ratings and prices of that wine you pick.  You will know right away whether that wine is a good buy or not.  There are many other information in this app including winemaker's notes, where to buy, food pairing and so forth.

If you find that recently bought wine very good, you can record it on this app, perhaps if you feel alike, you can give a review on it.  You won't forget again which wine you like or love.  It works great for me, especially being forgetfulness at my senior age and too many wine notes in my pocket!!

My testimony: With this Vivino app on my iPhone, I went down to my cellar and checked one of oldest bottles, Opus One 1986 ( my wife Karen gave this to me in our first wedding anniversary).  Lo and behold, its value was nearly $250!  Yeah, my anniversary wine has become as precious as my wedding ring!

Did You Know?:  America's First Winery

Before our beloved Thomas Jefferson became involved in the Revolutionary War, he planted America's first commercial vineyards and it was in 1773-1774.  He loved wine so much that he brought wine plants and many wine bottles from France.  His vineyards grew near his house in Monticello, Virginia.  His intent was to export his wine to Europe.  However, two years later when the War started, Thomas' vineyard was abandoned.  Not until 1981, the same original vineyard sites were replanted and later it is called Jefferson Vineyards.  Come visit Jefferson Vineyards and find out why Th.  Jefferson loved wine so much and ahead of his time!  (special thanks to Jason Tozier for this lead news)

See its link: jeffersonvineyards.com

Editor's note:  Jefferson Vineyards may be considered as America's first commercial vineyard but not the oldest vineyard because it ceased running for years.  Brotherhood Winery in New York is the oldest continuing vineyard since 1839 . . . without an interruption even during the Prohibition Era.  (this winery was able to continue its wine production during this forbidden era so that it could produced sacramental wine for the Catholic Church!)

News in the Deaf Community:

2015 Deaf StompFest was a smashing success!  Based on feedback from those who attended, not based on our committee's bias.  Hats off to DSF 2015 committee led by Teresa Finnigan!  Thanks to Bobby for photograph works at photo album of Deaf StompFest.

Deaf StompFest 2016 is being planned in the Livermore Valley near Fremont, California and it will be sometimes in September.  A site and exact date will be announced later in winter time. Stay tuned!

Wine Humor:

Did Thomas Jefferson actually say that?  We believe so!
