Editor Rusty's Rap:  the Origin of Clinking Glasses as Part of Toasting

( . . . without breaking the glass or spilling the wine! )

There are many versions of how it started but this is my favorite one, a great item for table talk: the ancient Greeks had many different methods to kill their enemies and poisoning wine was one of their ways.  At friendly social gatherings, the hosts and guests would slosh/blend a bit of their wine into each other's glasses to prove that it was safe to drink.  Eventually, the ritual became symbolic and involved only the touching of the glasses for a toast.

Wine of the Year - 2014:

Millions of thanks to a friend ( who asked for anonymity ) who sent me this Nickel & Nickel wine as pictured below, I fell in love with it!  It is expensive and small wonder that it comes from the finest district of Yountville of Napa Valley, CA.  Worth every sip!! Its vintage 2007 was available at the Whole Foods grocery store but currently only newer vintages may be available.

News in the Deaf Community:  Deaf StompFest 2014 in Paso Robles on September 13

It was a smashing success at Steinbeck Vineyards & Winery! Over 40 people attended and it was obvious that everyone enjoyed every minute.  Under the guidance of Rusty, the founder of the annual Deaf StompFest, the committee had prepared this fun-filled event, thanks to Salvador Scolaro and Anna Zuccaro for being hostships.  Especially a huge thanks to Cindy Steinbeck, 5th generation wine owner and president of Steinbeck Winery, who very graciously lent us the lovely spot on the property, and also donated grapes for stomping.  Rather than explaining in words on what's happening in this event, a video was created as "the picture ( today's technology- videotaping ) worth more than thousands of words" declared by Confucius.  Here it goes!  ( thanks to Skip, Brenda and Bobby for creating the video show )  Let's click on the link above this paragraph.

Deaf StompFest 2015 is planned for September 2015 and it will be in southern Washington/northern Oregon ( Pacific NorthWest ).  A formal announcement will be made in the next Spring edition.

Humor but Fact:  The interview with 101-year-old lady . . . and the celebrity movie star drinks 14 wine bottles everyday!  Still walk straight and perform well for a movie!  Guess who?  See the link! 14 bottles everyday!  ( Thanks to Larry Petersen and Jason Tozier for submitting these news items )
