Editor Rusty's Rap:  Earliest Wine Started in Stone Age!

So you think wine started in Roman days, or earlier than that, Golden Age of Greece?  Would you believe first wine was created by Neolithic men, probably known as earliest hunters-gatherers?!  The article in National Geographic reports that an archaeologist traced wine to the Neolithic period (8,500 to 4,000 B.C.); that's several thousands years before the Greek wine god, Bacchus, even was born!  Thanks to Mark Hansen, Arizona, for bringing this story to my attention (see the web site: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2004/07/0721_040721_ancientwine.html)

Wine of Stone Age

Oldest Wine Cellar, Where?

After inventing wine, then what?  The Wine cellar!  It isn't a new creation, after all.  It was 1,700 B.C. (3,700 years ago!) when the large wine cellar plus the huge banquet hall of Canaanite palace in northern Israel was built.  A group of archaeologists recently discovered remains of 40 ceramic jars which show traces of wine chemical components.  Scientists of archaeology and world history declared it was a "hugely significant discovery...it is a wine cellar that is largely unmatched in its age and size!"  Sorry, wine lovers, no wine is left in any of those wine jugs!  A big thanks goes to Pandy Branam, CA, who shared this news with us DG readers.

Wine Choices of 2014, Winter: Norton Reserva 2010, Malbec (from Mendoza, Argentina)

Pleasant discovery at Costco, rated very high 91 points by the Wine Enthusaiast. Only $11, great value! I bought 1/2 case of these wonderful bottles. (hope your nearby Costco still has Norton Reseva there when you reach the store)

Announcement for the Deaf Community:

Wine Appreciation Party will take place at Sun City Grand, Surprise near Phoenix on February 28, 2014.  It will be hosted by the Sun City Grand Deaf Retirement Community.  Alcohol is not allowed to be served at the party because it is considered to be within the city jurisdiction and we are required to have a liquor license; therefore,  we will not serve any alcohol beverage, but we will present the same program.  The party will be based on invitation for the residents and invitation for the guests outside of Grand only.  It seems ridiculous and illogical but that is the way the policy at Grand is.  Shooo!

Deaf StompFest 2014 is coming soon (9 months) and it will take place in Paso Robles, California, the fastest growing wine region in America!  Mark September 14, 2014 on your calendar and join us real fun in stomping grapes!
