John Whitcher

John Whitcher was 21 years old when he was fatally hurt and hit by a cow on Saturday night in Mariposa County.  The cow was wandering onto a highway.  He was an avid motorcyclist who worked for the Tuxedo Bakery and died a few hours after the accident in a Merced hospital.

A motorcyclist companion, Raymond Silveira of Stockton, said that his friend struck the cow while trying to avoid hitting a calf.  The accident occurred 23 miles east of Merced as the youths returned from the Yosemite National Park.

John Whitcher was a star athlete at the CSDB where he played all sports. In Stockton he played basketball with the Quality Radiator team.
