20th Annual
CSD Bear Hunt to Santa Cruz
via Kings Mountain Road and Tunitas Creek Road
with SAG Support

Date:  Saturday, November 5, 2016

Time:  Meet at 7:30 am for a group picture and ride instructions.    Ride starts at 8:00 am

Starting Point:  CSD Bear Hunt at 39350 Gallaudet Drive in Fremont at 8 am

Distance:  80-mile one-way from CSDF to Santa Cruz.  Better make arrangements with some one to pick you up at 2415 Mission Street, Santa Cruz

Type of Bike:  Road bikes only!

Ride Classification:  Fast paced. Our longest and toughest ride of the year. The highest climb will be 1470 feet. There will be a total of 6,000 feet climbing. Classified as G3-G4. The highest grade rate is 9.7%

Climb Rate:  80.7 mi +6340/ -6330 ft. Up to a grade rate of 9.7%

Lunch:  We will bring our own lunch and we will stop a bike rest stop at The Bike Hut on Tunitas Creek Road near Route 1.  Bring small dollars for the honor system cash box to buy water and snacks.

Safety:  Wearing a helmet is mandatory on all CDW rides.

What to bring:  Spare tube, patch kit, tire irons, pump/CO2 inflator, multi-tool, water bottle, identification card, medical card, cellular phone, and money for the pizza and bag lunch.

Before the ride: Check the wheels (quick-release skewers are tightened correctly), inspect the tires for air pressure (with a floor pump's meter, not your thumb), test the brakes, lube the chain, and check the shifting.

Weather:  Weather is usually warm and perfect bike riding weather. However, a breeze offer shows up along the coastal highway. Be sure to wear layering clothes for cold weather.

About the trail:  This is our longest, toughest, and most challenging road bike ride. The route is beautifully paved and goes through various sceneries, such as the Dumbarton Bridge, over the peninsula hills, and along the Pacific Coast Highway.
