Soquel Demonstration Forest and
Nisene Marks State Park

Time:  Meet at 10:00 am.  The new mountain bike outfit will be given out. Ride starts at 11:30 am.

Location:  Near Aptos / Santa Cruz

Start Location:  Epicenter Cycling Store, 8035 Soquel Drive #23, Aptos, CA 95003. It is a bicycling shop.

Directions:  From Fremont, get on I-880 South. Take SR-17 to State Park Drive in Aptos. Take the State Park Drive Exit from SR-1 South. Turn left onto State Park Drive. Turn right onto Soquel Drive. The store is on your left. Parking is free in the back.

Distance:  25 miles approximately. 12 miles and 2,000 feet of climbing at SDSF for fun ride, then 13 miles of downhill at the Forest of Nisene Marks State Park.

Type of bike:  Mountain

Ride Classification:  Intermediate and up (fire roads, some single track and steep hills)

Total Climb:  2,200 feet

Description:  Fire roads and single track

Expenses:  Please bring $20 for Shuttle Smith Bike Shuttles as it offers bike shuttles daily to the top of Forest of Nisene Marks.

About the Park:  Soquel Demonstration State Forest (SDSF) aka "Demo" is a 2,681 acre working forest established in 1990 and managed by CalFire. Demo is a favorite destination for Bay Area and Santa Cruz County mountain bikers and contains with long climbs and challenging, technical descents. Plenty of best highlights include Braille, Sawpit, Corral and Ridge trails.

For the Forest of Nisene Marks State Park, simply, riders will go down for 13 miles! Be sure to have excellent, working brakes! There will be a gorgeous view of the ocean on the way down. You will love it! Plenty of best thrills!

Weather Condition:  It may be heavy fog conditions, but later in the morning, it will go away! If rain, it is cancelled. It sucks!

Safety:  Wearing helmet is mandatory.

What to bring:  Spare tubes, patch kit, tire irons, pump/CO2 inflators, multi-tool, water hydration system/water bottles, identification/money/medical card and phone.

Before the Ride Maintenance:  Check the wheels (quick-release skewers are tightened correctly), inspect the tires for air pressure (with a floor pump's meter, not your thumb), test the brakes, lube the chain, and check the shifting.
